I performed a quick reality check in IDML to X direction (ID CS6, QuarkXPress 2022, Viva Designer 10, APub 1.10.4), and except for Serif (and Adobe), the results were depressing. But ID exists for long, and there's a lot of data, and I'm not sure Affinity's goal is to produce apps and files reproducing such structure (this documentation, helpful for scripting, can give an idea):
